Christianity is sometimes called the “Faith of the Free”.

As Paul explains, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Gal 5:1). There is only one way to practice this “Faith of the Free” and that is to be filled with the Holy Spirit:  “If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. …Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Gal 5:18, 25).

May is a special month on our church calendar. Fourty days after the resurrection of Jesus we celebrate the Feast of Ascension; on the fiftieth day is the Feast of Pentecost. Indeed we are not left as orphans (John 14:18), but the Spirit of Christ is with us.

May the Spirit guide us as congregation in whatever choices we have to make, and also in your personal lives.
